Event Summary

In celebration of Mai Ling Slaughter’s birthday, Alison Scott organized a group to attend Mimosa’s Cabaret production Hung Frankenstein. I adore a drag show, good or bad, and I am happy to say that this was an excellent one. The show was split into two sections, where each queen got a solo introductory number with a couple of group numbers themed to the Halloween spirit thrown in, with audience members encouraged to throw dollar bills to show their appreciation. The second half of the show was the mini-musical. It was described by our hostess, Izzy Access, as being all the sexual innuendos in Young Frankenstein lifted out and smushed together. As promised, the innuendos were (ahem) enhanced. While the sets were not much to speak of, the production value of the costuming was impeccable. These queens knew how to play to their strengths, and they never let the energy or the fun flag longer than a second to take a breath. I’ve never seen a drag show during the day, but since we were in the very colorful basement of the Unicorn, it may as well have been a late-night show. The crowd embraced the event, and there were a number of excellent sequined costumes and more than one pair of shoes I wouldn’t mind stealing.

Ticketing: $30 general admission + tax,

Attendance: It was a tight, packed venue. There were maybe 50 people packed in like sardines (h/t Andrew for being friendly when we nearly had to sit on each other’s lap).

Personal Bias/Reason I went: I just love a drag show and am excited to get to know the Seattle scene.

Transparency/Communication

The event was exactly as described, with a confirmation email. No reminder (which I am a fan of).

Event Goals

What a rollicking way to spend an afternoon engulfed in fun and silliness. Absolute success.

Reception

Judging by the many tips received, not to mention the constant whoops and engagement, a good time was had by all.

Value

A fair price for a great show, and they gave a coupon for a $2 mimosa to sweeten the deal.

Bottom line

I already bought a ticket to next month’s holiday outing, Not Today, Santa

A big ‘ol group of fun
